Description of Areas
Southeast Asian Studies
focuses on a wide range of topics related to Southeast Asia as a region and countries within that region. Modules in this area may be overviews or concentrate on particular issues. Modules may deliver between 7.5 and 30 hours of pre-recorded Zoom and/or live sessions.
SoutheastAsia Explore
combines online learning with an exploratory in-country component. It looks at groups of comparable Southeast Asian countries or focuses on individual countries. Themes covered by SoutheastAsia Explore include history, culture, society and current events. Each module in SoutheastAsia Explore has an online component that delivers 7.5 to 15 hours of video and pre-recorded zoom lecture that introduces historical sites, cultural practices, or aspects of society. Online learning components are supplemented with field visits to several sites within the Southeast Asian region.
Reading Southeast Asia
reviews publications on Southeast Asia and countries in the region. A book review session introduces the structure and main arguments, contributions the book makes to its respective Southeast Asia field, as well any unaddressed issues that could spur further investigation. Each Reading Southeast Asia session may focus on one or more than one book. It is organized through live or pre-recorded Zoom sessions that are 45 to 90 minutes in duration.
Southeast Asian Languages
and Literature is for learning and improving a Southeast Asian language. It is organized through live and pre-recorded Zoom sessions with a supporting tutor. Language modules meet between 7.5 and 15 hours.
Politics and Government
focuses on concepts and approaches for the study of political developments and governmental institutions. While modules introducing approaches and concepts are drawn from literature in the field of politics, government, political science, public administration, international relations, and political theory, the components on case studies will be mainly drawn from the Asian region. Politics and Government modules are between 7.5 and 20 hours of live and pre-recorded Zoom sessions.
Sustainable Development
teaches the concepts, approaches, and practices of sustainable development across a wide range of sectors. Case studies and discussions will largely be drawn from Asian and Southeast Asian examples. Sustainable Development modules are between 7.5 to 20 hours of live and pre-recorded sessions.
Capacity Development
focuses on aspects of technical and practical capacity on governance and sustainable development. Capacity Development modules are between 7.5 to 20 hours of live and pre-recorded Zoom sessions.
Practical Knowledge-Sharing
consists of a wide range of knowledge areas. It is between 7.5 and 15 hours of live and pre-recorded sessions.
